What is For the People Radio? A radio station made by the people for the people.
WEEKLY PLAYLISTS // NEW MUSIC // ARTIST DISCOVERY For the People Radio was founded in 2019, by Nicholas Crook, with the idea that new music is so hard to find. Sure... you can turn on the radio, but it's usually the same 20 songs playing over and over again. Finding new music takes work and most people don't want to take the time to do so. So that is where @ftpradio was born. Find freshly curated playlist each week - from people like you! (By the People). If you want to be someone who makes a playlist, text us at (346) 808-0096. We will get back to you!
About the curator behind For the People Radio:
Hey, I'm Nick! I work behind the scenes discovering new music, artists, and creating most of the content you see. I am currently in Fort Wayne, IN, USA and to say I love music is an understatement. I remember being a kid and getting iTunes gift cards for birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays. I spent hours listening to the 30 second clips of songs trying to find the music I wanted to actually spend the gift cards on. The first album I purchased was Stevie Wonder "Signed Sealed Delivered". My music taste has gone through many changes over the years and I currently am enjoy the stuff you find on the "For the People" playlist on Spotify. My family and I are working on building out a van conversion to travel and see more of North America/South America. We hope to see you along the way! - Nick

Who is JID? One of the most relentless rappers out right now. His album DiCaprio 2 is this weeks AOTW (album of the week) listen here.
JID (Destin Choice Route) has been on the scene for a while, but was signed to Dreamville Records, which was founded by J. Cole, back in February 2017. Growing up in East Atlanta, he had to learn to roll with the punches. During his young life, he found himself diving into sports and trying to go places with that. Which eventually led him to getting a D1 scholarship to Hampton University in Virginia. Where he would meet Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot, who would change his life. "DiCaprio 2 turns 2 today this project taught me a lot about myself, also gave me space to becoming the performer I’ve always wanted to be. We toured 170+ dates in 2019 off of this and the Dreamville project..this next album cycle is very close, it’s also a holiday so I’m very thankful for this body of work and everyone who helped or came to a show, bought Merch, I fuckin love u #TFS incoming" - JID (instagram). Be sure to find JID online and follow him to see what he is working on next.

This weeks "For the People Album" is Terra Firma [just dropped} by Tash Sultana. Listen here!
Tash Sultana is an explosive global producer and artist who has commanded attention world wide since homemade videos went viral on YouTube. ‘Tash’ was soon selling out major arenas, a string of sold out world tours and headlining the world’s biggest festivals – no mean feat for an artist who just a year before was recording songs on a go pro in a bedroom back in 2016.
Since Tash’s grandfather gifted a guitar at the age of three, the artist developed a love for self teaching an array of different instruments around the guitar knowledge which they had been taught as a young kid during primary school. Quickly developing a unique style that has seen Tash breaking record attendances around the world. Tash plays over 12 instruments (guitar, bass, drums/percussion, piano/keyboard/synth/Oud, trumpet, saxophone, flutes, Pan pipes, Sitar, harmonica, beat production) with guitar as their main love, a self trained vocal range spanning 6 octaves (From C2-A7 on piano) and a live show that needs to be seen to be believed. The one-person powerhouse started out playing open mic nights at age 13 with the help of a fake ID. Soon to finish school with the reluctance to get a ‘real’ job, took to the streets to busk every day of the week on Melbournes famous Bourke St back in 2009-2015. That was the beginning of the local traction following Tash. Soon to reach a world wide global scale in the years following to present. Recent accolades include over 1 Billion combined streams, an ARIA award for Blues and Roots Album of The Year with ‘Flow State’, smash single ‘Jungle’ coming in at #3 in triple j’s Hottest 100, achieving multi-platinum sales for the Notion EP, double platinum sales for ‘Jungle’ and platinum sales for ‘Notion’ along with numerous gold certified singles and a certified gold debut album. All self produced, self composed and self arranged. Tash was the only artist to sell out 3 Brixton Academy shows before their debut album along with selling another 500,000 tickets worldwide which recently culminated in a sold out performance at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Greek Amphitheatre, with noted stand out sets at Coachella & Lollapalooza. (Via: tashsultana.com) Enjoy this album from start to finish, you won't be disappointed! Chaz Michael Michael brought you this weeks "By the People" playlist. LIVE NOW! This playlist includes music from: Campsite Dream, A R I Z O N A, and Branches to name a few. Click on the link to listen now. Chaz is based out of Fort Wayne, IN, USA. He currently works at one of the best restaurants in town and they just so happen to have live music every week. He enjoys connecting with people, talking about music, and making sure everyone around him is living their blessed (best) life.
You see, Chaz is what you call a music enthusiast. When he isn't working, you will find him traveling the US to see all of the shows. You might even say it's his job to go to shows and concerts. Don't believe us? Ask him how many times he has seen Dave Matthews Band.... 41. He knows how to have a good time and you'll be sure to make friends with him if you catch him at Bonnaroo! He's been going there for the past 10 years and has even worked for the festival a few times! You can follow his journey on Instagram. Want to make a playlist? Text as at (346) 808-0096!
"Our music exists to spread love and positivity across the world. For those hurting, for those lost, we want every song to be a pathway that can lead anyone to brighter days. We often write our songs in ways that can better relate to the listener, so that they can be serviced by the stories and emotions we hope to capture with our words. Music is one of the most powerful platforms in the world for people to relate to one another, so we hope to create music that people can rejoice together in, no matter who they are or where they’re from. It’s becoming easier nowadays to judge everything from its appearance due to convenience. We want to reinforce the idea that to give purpose to something is to understand the layers beyond that outer surface. That any song can become a moment, any moment can become a canvas, and any canvas can become an escape. In a world full of surfaces, it’s up to us to interpret meaning beyond them, in whatever facet that may be." (from Surfaces website).
So enjoy the album this week. Listen to it from start to finish and let us know what your favorite song is this week! |
