Meet the genre-blending polymath known as Shaboozey, a creative force who wears multiple hats as a musician, filmmaker, author, and producer. His distinctive sound is a vibrant fusion of influences ranging from country music and classic rock to '80s pop culture, Afro-beat, jazz, and hip-hop. While Shaboozey first graced our ears with his music back in 2014 through the single "Jeff Gordon," it wasn't until 2018 that he unveiled his official debut full-length album, "Lady Wrangler." Fast forward to 2022, and he gifted us with "Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die," a unique blend of country and trap-infused melodies. Hailing from northern Virginia, Shaboozey, born Collins Chibueze to Nigerian parents, embarked on a fascinating journey of musical exploration. His story took a significant turn when he was sent to Nigeria for boarding school during his junior high years. It was there that he honed his sense of rhythm and reconnected with his cultural roots. Upon his return to the United States, he channeled his diverse influences into his music, drawing inspiration from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Fela Kuti, the Clipse, Roger Waters, and even the Backstreet Boys. One of his early tracks, "Jeff Gordon," was a testament to his desire to create a distinctive hybrid sound, weaving ominous trap elements with haunting piano melodies. Shaboozey's distinctive style soon caught the attention of Republic Records, leading to a pivotal signing in 2017. The following year, he dropped the singles "Break the Band (How Could She?)" and "Winning Streak," which skillfully blended a bluesy guitar solo, hazy production, and his soulful fusion of R&B vocals and poetic rap. "Winning Streak" found its place on his official debut LP, "Lady Wrangler," released in October of that year. In October 2022, Shaboozey treated his fans to a sophomore album that further pushed the boundaries of genre, aptly titled "Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die." This remarkable album featured standout tracks like "Tall Boy" and boasted guest appearances by Powers Pleasant and RMR. It's a testament to Shaboozey's ever-evolving artistry and his unwavering commitment to challenging the norms of music genres. Shaboozey's journey is a testament to the power of creative fusion and the boundless possibilities that arise when artists fearlessly blend their influences. With each release, he continues to captivate us with his eclectic sonic tapestry, leaving us eagerly anticipating what musical marvel he'll unveil next. But until then, enjoy "Let It Burn" ... added to our "for the people" playlist!
